To Marcus Aelius Candidianus, of clarissimus rank, ... governor (consularis) of the province…, patron …; the most splendid council (ordo) of the city of Sufetula … to the memory of his remarkable affection towards its citizens ... Severus, of egregius rank, priest in perpetuity, curator of the city, set up this statue with his own funds.
