'Turcius Apronianus, of clarissimus rank, prefect of the city, took care [of it].'
The inscription records the re-erection of a statue by the prefect of the City.
DESCRIPTION (CIL and photo) White marble base, inserted into wall. 85 x 65 cm. The epigraphic field is framed by moulding. It is deep and rough, a clear sign of erasure of an earlier inscription. It measures 70 x 45 cm.
PROVENANCE ANDCURRENT LOCATION Our base was found in the Campus Martius, near the church of Santa Maria della Pace. It is now in the Vatican Museums, Galleria Lapidaria . III, 20 (inv. 8946).
HONORAND, AWARDER AND DATE The inscription records the re-dedication of a statue restored or moved from a different location. The subject of the statue is not stated. The official responsible for it was the prefect of the City in 362-364 Lucius Turcius Apronianus (PLRE I, 88-89 Apronianus 10). Carlos Machado
