D(omino) n(ostro) / M(arco) Fl[a]vio / Valerio / Constantio, / (5) nob(ilissimo) Caes(ari), / res publica / municipii / Aunobaritanii (sic), / devota numi/ni maiestati/que eius.
'To our lord Marcus Flavius Valerius Constantius, most noble Caesar; the community (res publica) of the city (municipium) of Aunobaris, devoted to his divine spirit and majesty, [set this up].'
Letter height : 4.5 - 6 cm
DESCRIPTION (from CIL and Poinssot) According to CIL, the base is made up of two conjoining pieces ('in basis partibus duabus'), and a break is shown through its seventh line. Poinssot gives no description, other than its measurements: H 185, W 45, D 45 cm.
PROVENANCE AND CURRENT LOCATION Found in 1882-3 by Poinssot. There is no published record of its precise find-spot or present location.
HONORAND, AWARDER AND DATE The honorand, Constantius I, was Caesar from 293 to 305.
The awarder was the city, as usual for imperial statues in Africa. Gabriel de Bruyn
